Deepika Padukone's Open Letter Will Have A Lasting Effect On You

After the so-called 'news' item by a leading publishing house (it's The Times Of India) about a cleavage show by Deepika Padukone, not only the actress but also almost the entire Bollywood fraternity as well as many of us, took a dig at the 'offender'. Every second headline began revolving around the same! There seemed to be no end to it.

In that chaotic scenario, Deepika once again chose a social networking platform to voice her mind. The bold lady wrote an open letter on her Facebook page - the contents of which clearly underline that the matter is much more than just a 'cleavage saga'! You HAVE to read her words to understand the soul of her feelings and emotions!

My Point of View...

There is only ONE sign that a woman wants to have sex and that is that she says “YES”.

The reason I write the above line is because we all know that in India we are so desperately trying to make a change in the way sections of our society think in order to move towards a happier world devoid of inequality, rape, fear and pain.

I am not naive about my own profession; it is one that requires lots of demanding things of me. A character may demand that I be clothed from head to toe or be completely naked, and it will be my choice as an actor whether or not I take either. Understand that this is a ROLE and not REAL, and it is my job to portray whatever character I choose to play convincingly.

What my concern is and I am stating it clearly so it is not misconstrued or confused with Shahrukh’s 8-pack or any other woman’s or man’s anatomy. I have spoken out against an ideology that such regressive tactics are still being employed to draw a reader’s attention at a time when we are striving for women’s equality and empowerment. In a time where women should be applauded for making headway in a male-dominated society,we blur the lines between REEL and REAL life and dilute all our efforts by making a one-year old back sliding piece of news a headline. Digging out an old article and headlining it “OMG: Deepika’s Cleavage Show!” to attract readers is using the power of influence to proliferate recessive thought.

When an actresses inner wear decides to do a "peek-a-boo",she most definitely did not step out with the intention to do so.So instead of zooming in,circling it and pointing arrows at it,why don't we give her some 'respect' and let it go instead of making it 'headlines'!? Are we not human?Yes we marvel, envy and drool over a male actors 8pack abs in a film, but do we zoom in on the mans 'crotch' when he makes a public appearance and make that 'cheap headlines'??!!

I have no issue celebrating my body and I have never shied away from anything on-screen to portray a character. In fact my next character portrayed is a bar dancer (sorry Farah for the spoiler!) who titillates men as a means to support her livelihood. My issue is you propagating the objectification of a REAL person, and not a character being played. Sure, dissect my characters if you wish-if it is of so much interest then discuss the character’s cup size and leg length if it is relevant to making the role convincing. All I am asking for is respect as a woman off-screen.

It is not about breasts, penises,or any other body part being reported. It is a matter of context and how out-of-context the reportage is just to sell a headline. And more so during a time in dire need of an attitude shift towards women.

For me this topic ends here.Everyone is entitled to an opinion.I have little interest to take this further as it might get more attention than it deserves and might be further misconstrued and twisted to sell more undeserved headlines.

Having said that, please may we show love, dignity and respect to each other.

Live well, laugh often and love much.

Deepika Padukone

Don't you think this is the bravest yet most sensitive attempt by the woman on issues that need to be paid special and serious attention at the moment?

Last but not the least, here's SALUTING Deepika Padukone for handling the issue with so much grace! Lots of RESPECT for the lovely lady!

Deepika To Choose Ranbir Over Salman?

Well, well... Deepika Padukone has found herself in a tight spot of late. Reason being an interesting one - apparently, the girl is in a dilemma as to who she should pick as her romantic partner!

Here's all the dope - DP has signed on the dotted line for Sooraj Barjatya's next with Salman Khan. Sounds wow, right? But before the lady could revel in the glory of working with Khan, she found herself on a sticky wicket.

Thanks to her super blockbuster pairing with Ranbir Kapoor last year, Imtiaz Ali roped the two sizzlers in his next, tentatively titled Window Seat. Now the problem is the dates for the two big flicks that are clashing with each other, leaving Deepika confused.

While it would be her golden chance to star opposite Salman if she chooses Barjatya's project, Deepika has been craving to work with Imtiaz again since Love Aaj Kal.

If sources are to be believed, the actress is more keen on doing Imtiaz's venture.

Does that mean she will invite tension vibes between Salman and herself? Or, will she skip Ranbir's flick for Khan? Or, will she be lucky enough to adjust her dates so she gets to be a part of both the biggies? Only time will tell. Watch out this space for more updates.

Ranbir Kapoor or Salman Khan - who should Deepika Padukone choose as her next leading man? Share your views in the Comments section below.

Filmfare Awards 2014: Fashion Report Card

Filmfare being Tinsel Town's biggest awards show, has its own charm and magic on us. Everything associated with it, creates headlines. We not only look forward to the Black Lady winners, but also take equal interest in our favourite celebs' style statements (or the lack of it) at the Red Carpet.

Here's a Popcorn take on who sizzled and who fizzled at the grand celebration:

Sexy, sensuous, sensational... Vaani Kapoor looks absolutely stunning in this smoking-hot gown. Many, many extra points for her bold back look. Way to go, girl.

You were not supposed to take the term 'Red Carpet' so literally, ladies! Tamanna and Richa Chada play complete spoilers in their yawn-worthy apparels! Period!

Sophistication meets sumptuous style... Soha Ali Khan looks elegant and desirable in her figure-flattering ensemble. Beau Kunal Kemmu looks suave and dapper, complementing his graceful girl.

Shahid Kapoor may not be the 'it' guy anymore, but he surely knows how to woo the ladies out there!

Black is certainly the safest bet, no doubt about that. But Shruti Haasan mixes apt boldness with it, and walks away with whistles and claps.

Any Body Can Laugh, Remo D'Souza.

WOW! Priyanka Chopra churns out a heady cocktail of sensuality and grace in her curve-flaunting, off-shoulder gown. A pop of gold only adds to the sizzle. Even her trendy hairstyle is spot on.

Arghhh! Looks like Prachi Desai had been feeding herself on countless DVDs of some dowdy, frumpy fashion shows from decades ago, before picking this disaster dress for Filmfare!

Konkona Sen Sharma makes for a visual treat in this interesting Anarkali. Her lovely hairdo and patent smile win many hearts, hands down.

Outrageous! While Ranveer Singh drives us up the wall with his OTT, almost catastrophic jacket; Karisma Kapoor gives us equally hurtful shock with her unseasoned outfit!

Kalki Koechlin never misses to enrapture us with her fine dressing sense. The petite girl does a gorgeous black and golden Anarkali here. Gulshan Devaiah, on the other hand, needs some style tips from the lady.

While Kabir Khan looks just fine, it is Mini Mathur who disappoints with her pick for the day. Simplicity turns more heads and attracts more headlines alright, but you can't forget the basic fashion rule, Mini. A dash of oomph never lets the spotlight leave you. I'm sure your wardrobe has some eye-pleasing, stylishly simple outfits. This one is a huge turn off!

Oh My God! She actually wore this dress to the Filmfare Awards event! Here's a serious advice for Huma Qureshi - fire your stylist right away!

Deepika Padukone strikes gold not only at the box-office but also on the Red Carpet... well, literally here! The stunner personifies glamour and grace with equal flair.

No matter what he wears, Salman Khan looks utterly desirable at all occassions. This one is no exception.

Amitabh Bachchan surely knows the best tricks to remain fashionable, keeping his signature style well intact.

Ayushmann Khurrana could have opted for a brighter pocket square to render hints of bloom to his otherwise bland look.

Bruna Abdullah owns a super hot body, but the lady has totally ruined our moods by choosing this flavorless Anarkali dress that does no justice to her curvaceous shape.

A cute Aditi Rao Hydari exudes aroma, warmth and spice in her exquisitely done gown.

Dhanush looks good in this suited-booted avatar.

Dia Mirza fails to cast a spell in this wimpy wear. Her businessman beau, Sahil Sangha, is also a flop.

Oops! Wardrobe malfunction! Adhuna Akhtar wrongly picks a fancy-dress-competition-esque costume for one of B-Town's biggest event of the year! Downright disappointment! On the other hand, her actor hubby, Farhan, keeps it jaunty and debonair with his fresh, fragrant look.

While Goldie Behl carries off a neat look here, Sonali Bendre seems to have taken the day too lightly! I mean, seriously Sonali? A very, very common* black dress to the Filmfare Awards night?

*Our jaws drop at the 'mishap'

Last but certainly not the least, Kajol endorses vivacity and life in her printed one-shoulder gown. Thumbs up to the cheerful lady!

Why Have Ranbir-Katrina Broken Up?

While their Spanish holiday rubberstamped their romance last year, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif's recent US trip signals towards a splitsville. If true, it will be the year's first celeb breakup.

Before we could officially celebrate the two as RanKat, headlines that the two have called it quits started doing the rounds.

Just to fill in those unaware on what transpired post the duo's New Year celebration in the US, here's all the dope - soon after ringing in the New Year, the two fell short of finding themselves on the same page. Kat's poor health conditions only made the matters worse. As a result, Ranbir took a flight to Mumbai without his rumoured girl in tow. Katrina too flew down soon after. There have been reports of their separation ever since.

Though there's no official announcement of their breakup (just as their affair), we totally believe that there were surely some arguments and disagreements between the two that gave way to such goss.

Here's a Popcorn take on three possible reasons behind the high-profile B-Town breakup:

#1: COMMITMENT PHOBIA

Apparently, Katrina is miffed with Ranbir for not giving her an official assurance about a future together. Not that she wants to tie the knot ASAP, but she most definitely wants her man to give her a rough idea as to when the two would get hitched. On the other hand, as rumour mills spill, RK seems to have some reservations so far as the 'M' word is concerned.

#2: LOVE TRIANGLE?

The ex-flames, Ranbir and Deepika Padukone, may have let bygones be bygones, but Katrina still can't help playing a jealous girlfriend. Reasons are obvious - Deepika is hot as hell, is on every director's wish list today, has struck gold at the box-office this year... and above all, she has charmed the pants off the cine-circles with her super cozy, effortless, crackling chemistry with Ranbir in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Plus, Dippy and RK maintain that they are "just friends" - a greatly exploited Bollywood term. We totally understand your insecurities, Kat.

#3: RELATIONSHIP STATUS

If sources are to be believed, it is the lover boy Ranbir Kapoor who has kept the rumoured sweethearts from updating their relationship status online and otherwise. Apparently, Katrina is disgruntled with Ranbir's attitude when it comes to billboarding their bond. A clear example of RK's intention to keep things under wraps is his rather cold stint on Koffee With Karan this season, in which, despite a lot of 'spilling' by cousin Kareena, Ranbir remained tight-lipped and steered clear of acknowledging his affair with Katrina.

Why Ram-Leela Fails To Strike A Chord

Courtesy my baby's arrival around the release date of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's over-hyped magnum opus, I could spare some time only recently to watch the film. So, here goes...

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela is one helluva feast that is overflowing with all kinds of spices, yet it tastes oh-so bland!

There's a riot of colours (Bhansali has shifted from blue to red). Sets are too grand for our imagination. Background score is equally enchanting. So is the drop dead gorgeous, super sensuous leading lady. And then we have a crazy, sexy lover boy. All this in a chase to tell an iconic love story. Tempting package, I must say.

But, but, but... while all that sounds like a heartwarming cinematic experience, unfortunately, the charm of this outstanding package that could have dropped our jaws in absolute awe, fails to strike a chord!

Why? Well, the wobbly screenplay and a dwarfed handling of it, the cheesy dialogues along with plentiful of corny antics are to be blamed. On top of it all, it is the chemistry between the so-called lovers that put me off the most. Sensuality turns into sexuality much before I could blink an eye!

Here are 5 spoilers that made Ram-Leela look like a desperate attempt to enter the 100 crore club. Surely, it won that status. But miserably fell short of scoring with my taste buds.

#5: THE SLOPPY STORY
Ram sees Leela. Leela sees Ram. Sparks fly. Without leaving any room for a meaningful conversation, the two indulge in a lip-lock. If that is not enough, Ram is seen in Leela's bedroom a couple of frames later. On her bed, to be precise. Love... errr... lust at first sight! Obvious twist - the two firebrands belong to warring families. Ultimately, their story - post a series of illogical, avoidable, loud drama - meets a tragic end.

Okay... so where's the story? I mean the one that makes sense and makes a splash! This one sounds like a typical, seen-before-ample-times formula, minus any X-factor.

The screenplay is a dead duck right from the beginning. There's no real-looking, interesting 'thing' between the lead pair that convinces the movie-buffs about their so-called love saga.

Leela accuses Ram of killing her brother with utmost hatred in one scene, and is kissing him passionately the very next moment! The film is a bag full of such blah-blah-blah moments. The change of heart in Leela's otherwise foxy, bloodthirsty mother towards the climax, is yet another turn off! Far from reality.

To cut the two-and-a-half hour long story short, this Sanjay Leela Bhansali product fails to click.

#4: LEELA HAS IT, YET SHE LACKS IT
SLB has gained a reputation in the industry for his opulent cinema. That he presents his heroines in a certain way is yet another USP of the ace filmmaker. His leading ladies are strong, yet win our hearts with their vulnerability; they are sexy, yet send their men into raptures with their sensuality.

Sadly, Leela is an exception. She is super hot alright. But we miss the grace and the subtlety. Her character looks so awkward in many sequences, especially when she is supposed to act all bindaas. Because it's not effortless. It lacks conviction.

Deepika may have hit the jackpot at the box-office in 2013, but she clearly takes the heat here. Leaving your comfort zone and strolling through a completely new territory, and finding a gold mine, is no child's play, Dippy dear.

#3: THE UNBEARABLE RAM
Ranveer Singh's Ram is nothing more than a piece of meat for the female viewers. He looks hot and oozes oodles of sex appeal. But it ends there.

It seems, he has taken his Band Baaja Baaraat appreciation way too seriously. Ram's character has no depth. There's no connect between him and the audience. He looks plain hollow - someone whose shenanigans have no good reason or logic to please or persuade the ticket-buyers.

I'm utterly disappointed that Ranveer gave such an insipid, flat act after casting a spell with Lootera. A big thumbs down!

#2: YAWN-WORTHY DIALOGUES
The film's dialogue-writer must have done a hell lot of hard work. Digging the scripts of the B-grade movies from the 90s, is not a cakewalk, after all! Add to that, the trashy texts exchanged between the two protagonists...arghhh!!! Who sends such unsavory lines to their sweethearts today? Absolute turn off!

#1: ALL SKIN, NO SOUL, NO SPIRIT
A cleavage-thrusting Leela would still have been passable, had she dived under the skin of her wild character and given an equally bold performance as her costumes and gestures. But no, the romantic drama is all glossy and no glory.

All Ram wants is to grab his girl and smooch her. Even Leela looks for opportunities to get dirty with her man. Such overdose gives us indigestion and all we want to do is puke.

Ram-Leela has surely raked in moolah. But has it raked in your positive reviews as well? Share your thoughts about the film in the Comments section below.

Why Katrina Kaif Is Jealous Of Deepika Padukone

Looks like Katrina Kaif is plugging away at covering up for her seemingly evaporating star status. Courtesy Deepika Padukone. Kat is absolutely aware that Dippy has emerged as a serious warning to her otherwise smooth-sailing career.

Yet, Kaif maintains that she enjoys being challenged by Deepika's outstanding report card, which gives her a shot in the arm to do better.

Brave words! But just words those are! The tension that's looming large in the new Dhoom hottie's head can't escape the film-loyalists' sharp eyes.

Here are my top six reasons owing to which KK has already started panicking because of DP's interminable, ever-increasing stardom and prominence in cine-circles.

1) BECAUSE DEEPIKA IS UNDISPUTEDLY THE BOX-OFFICE QUEEN CURRENTLY
While Deepika Padukone's all four Bollywood flicks this year have stormed the ticket-windows, Katrina is yet to take her first trip to the box-office in 2013, with the Christmas release, Dhoom:3. Not just that, DP's fifth project (a Tamil film, starring Rajinikanth) is also ready to open in theatres. I totally understand, Katrina has reasons aplenty to feel the sting.

2) BECAUSE DEEPIKA HAS ENTERED THE 'ACTING' LEAGUE
Once tagged as just a glam-doll with wooden expressions, Deepika has distinctively grown out of that sorry stage, and is lionized for her new-found, fine emoting credentials. Whereas, Katrina is yet to take that ground-breaking plunge.

3) BECAUSE DEEPIKA AND RANBIR ARE 'BACK TOGETHER'
Before the obvious conclusions hover over your minds, here's the catch – yes, Dippy is 'back with Ranbir', but not without a 'but'. The two are back to being good friends, but have staved off any possibilities of a future romance between them. As far as their comfort level in each other's company is concerned, the two stunners and ex-sweethearts have stormed the cine-circles with an outstanding display of their super comfy and spot-on sizzling chemistry in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. They even shared few passionate kisses in the romantic drama. All this spice is sufficient enough to give Kat dark circles under her eyes due to a number of sleepless nights.

4) BECAUSE DEEPIKA'S JODI WITH SRK GETS STRONGER
While Katrina is all set to complete her Khan-hat-trick, Deepika hasn't worked with Salman and Aamir yet. But there are no tension lines on her forehead! For, the leggy lass is soon to romance the King Khan for the third time – easily a bigger feat than her contemporary. Kat's Jab Tak Hai Jaan was a smash hit last year alright. But has she outgunned Deepika? Naah! Here' why – Padukone began her B-Town journey with Shah Rukh, tasted success and walked away with a Filmfare trophy; and has just glorified her work CV with a box-office bonanza with SRK yet again. While, Katrina surely lacks for such luck. And what's more, Deepika has once again been signed on to be SRK's leading lady in her next – Farah Khan's Happy New Year. The scoreboard clearly roots for Deepika in this case as well.

5) BECAUSE DEEPIKA IS WORKING WITH THE RAJINI-GOD-KANTH DOWN SOUTH
Ah! Deepika can brag about the coveted achievement all her life. She has been endowed with a lifetime opportunity. With becoming Rajinikanth's love interest in her upcoming Tamil movie, Kochadaiiyaan, Deepika is simply over the moon. Katrina, on the other hand, can only feel her jealous bones getting super active.

6) BECAUSE DEEPIKA HAS ALREADY EARNED ONE BLACK LADY
Every Bollywood diva dreams to take this 'lady' home at least once in her career. Deepika has been truly blessed to deck out her showcase with a Filmfare award right after her Bollywood debut. Katrina, however, is yet to soak up that bliss.

Do you think Katrina Kaif will be able to outshine Deepika Padukone with Dhoom:3?

Why We Can't Ignore Ram Ki Leela

Ram-Leela wouldn't have been such a curious affair, had it not been for its sultry, strong-headed female lead. I'm sure you too wouldn't agree more.

There are more reasons than the typical 'top-five' ones that will land us at our nearest cinema-halls this weekend. So, my top six picks are -

6) BECAUSE BHANSALI HAS CHOSEN HER

Just look back and recall all the SLB heroines, and you'll understand what I mean. They've all been delicate yet delicious, strong yet vulnerable. Deepika too joins the coveted gang of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's girls. And I'm sure the maverick filmmaker must surely have taken full advantage of Deepika's surprisingly improving acting chops as well as heart-warming ravishing looks.

5) BECAUSE SHE'S WEARING A NO-BOKWAAS ATTITUDE UP HER SLEEVE

As a Gujju girl in the magnum opus, Deepika shows clear signs of a hot and saucy femme fatale, who calls a spade a spade. She is bold, aggressive and passionate so far as the promos are concerned. And we are all the more curious to get more, bigger doses of her spunky, free-spirited approach in her forthcoming role.

4) BECAUSE SHE IS THE ULTIMATE BOX-OFFICE QUEEN

After her geek-turned-bombshell stint in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, supa-hawt avatar in Race 2, a charming South Indian role in Chennai Express - our dazzling Dippy is set to warm the cockles of our hearts yet again. In her latest screen-portrayal, the actress looks promising enough to set the ticket-windows afire, for the fourth time this year! That's definitely something to go bananas for!

3) BECAUSE SHE'S LOOKING OH-SO-SEXY IN HER LEHENGA-CHOLIS

Post her hot-as-hell recital of a rich, spoilt brat in Cocktail, DP has only gone one step ahead with each movie-outing. I agree, she's not playing a bikini-clad Veronica-seque charcter in Ram-Leela, but who says only a beach wear can charm the pants off us? Deepika surely knows all the smart tricks of the glam trade. That's precisely why we don't miss her tiny attires even a tad bit when we see her in those absolutely bodilicious traditional outfits, in the film's trailers.

2) BECAUSE SHE'S ROMANCING THE EQUALLY HOT RAM

They may have kept away from sharing their relationship status with us. And we certainly don't care for reasons aplenty. For one, the two stunners - off screens and on it - never fall short of sending us into raptures. Thanks to their super sizzling chemistry in all the frames, hands down. Now tell me, could a paisa-wasool movie-experience ever disturb us about their love-story-or-no-love-story debate off the reels? Naaaaaah! We definitely have much better things to get worried about.

1) BECAUSE SHE'S 'THE DEEPIKA HOT-BOD PADUKONE'

That's the obvious one! Need I even attempt to elaborate it?

Let me know if you too have a reason to look up to this smoking-hot Leela.

Why Is Kissing Still A Big Deal In Bollywood?

First things first. Okay, we have outgrown those days when two beak-rubbing birds had to endure all the pain to lay bare a supposed kiss between our screen-lovers. Or two roses would get together in a quivering osculation to hint at the intimacy. Times have changed. Lip-locking has turned a trend now – an indispensable component of a wholesome masala flick. Even art films, as some 'serious, thinking actors' love to label them as, aren't devoid of an 'aesthetically shot' smooch.

The freshest example is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's forthcoming magnum opus, Ram-Leela, promos of which have already dished out few of its spiciest and juiciest scenes. Apart from some naughty games played between Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, the trailers have also served us with some real hot stuff! The two leads are getting cozy and passionate, in turn, indulging in some raw, intense kissing sequences. But as they say, heat whips up fire, and it surely holds true in this case too.

Deepika and Ranveer, rumoured to be real-life sweethearts too, have sent the cine-fans into raptures with their oh-so carefree kissing bits that come as naturally as there were no cameras around when the scenes were filmed. The two sexy stunners pull off the wild moments with sheer flourish and conviction. So-called virtuous scouts be damned!

Despite the so-called maturing times and ever-increasing flux of kisses in films, one thing remains rooted to the spot – intimacy and lip-locking are still frowned upon by a certain section of our society. Call them watch-dogs, moral police or responsible citizens – they never fall short of showing up each time a movie gets an 'A' from the censor board.

Our actors and actresses are thinking bolder now. And are always game for plunking down their inhibitions 'if the script demands'. However, some self-styled custodians raise their eyebrows and drop their jaws the minute they get wind of a 'scene' in an upcoming project. The intensity of their gripes and grumbles against such on-screen acts unwaveringly bank on the number of kisses a certain film boasts of. The higher the figure, the more the nit-pickings.

Bollywood kissing may have become a rage only in recent years, but its roots are almost as old as the Hindi film industry itself. It was Devika Rani who locked lips with her screen-man (and husband) Himanshu Rai in Karma back in 1933. The first ever on-screen kiss in tinsel town. Though the scene was edited before the film's release, it surely grabbed eyeballs. And the tradition hasn't taken a break since. Every filmi kiss is watched with eagle eyes.

From Zeenat Aman and Dimple Kapadia, to Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor, to Rani Mukerjee and Aishwarya Rai, to Mallika Sherawat and Bipasha Basu, to Vidya Balan and Kareena Kapoor, to Nargis Fakhri and Anushka Sharma, to Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif – almost all big league hotties have smooched their leading men on silver screens. And each time, those sensational frames became one of the biggest USPs of those films.

The fashion of counting kisses probably began with Mallika's 17 smooches in Khwahish. I wonder if some hawks were really toting up the digits! Anyway, the latest flick to get listed here is Shuddh Desi Romance that scorched the headlines with its 27 kisses. While in the West, such 'scenes' are just a part of their films, they are the driving points back home. They become the sole identities of many movies, irrespective of their decent storylines. All the credit goes to the moral inspectors who are outstanding at their jobs, hands down.

So birds and flowers have been replaced with real stuff. And the evolution – from a peck on the cheeks to on the lips, to tongue-fighting smooches – has been a slow yet steady process. That is only going stronger and bigger with time. Though we may have entered the freethinking era of 21st century, PDA-ing, kissing and smooching are still considered a taboo here.
